Studio page guide

Set up your own domain for your studio page

Show your studio page at a name of your own, such as profile.yourstudio.com. You add one record where your domain is managed, which takes about 2 minutes. On the Studio plan and above.

Before you start

  • The Studio plan or above.
  • Your studio page, saved with its link name: in the app or the dashboard, Settings › Your studio. Your domain shows that page.
  • A domain you own, and the sign-in for the place where its DNS is managed.

In Settings › Your studio › Your own domain, type the name, such as profile.yourstudio.com, and press Save. SnapMila then tells you where your domain is managed and shows the record below, with Copy buttons.

Nameprofile — the part before your domain. For photos.yourstudio.com it is photos.
Valuecustom.snapmila.com — some providers call this box Target, Data or Points to.

Steps at your domain provider

Pick where your domain is managed: usually where you bought it. Your SnapMila settings name it for you, as “Your domain is at …”. If your domain uses another company's nameservers (for example Cloudflare's), pick that company.

GoDaddy

  1. Sign in to GoDaddy and open your Domain Portfolio.
  2. Select your domain. Domain Settings opens.
  3. Select DNS, then Add New Record.
  4. Pick CNAME in Type. Name: profile · Value: custom.snapmila.com.
  5. Select Save. If GoDaddy asks for a code (Domain Protection), enter it.
  6. Back in SnapMila, press Check now.

Good to know at GoDaddy
  • Write the name without your domain: GoDaddy adds it.
  • GoDaddy refuses a name another record already uses: delete the old one first.

Using www.yourstudio.com

You can type www.yourstudio.com in SnapMila instead of a new name such as profile. Before you do:

  • A website on www stops showing there. www is where websites usually open. Once this works, guests see your studio page at www.yourstudio.com instead. Have a website? Use a new name, such as profile.yourstudio.com.
  • Edit the www record that is already there. Most providers add one when you buy the domain, and a name can hold only one CNAME, so don't add a second one: set the existing record's type to CNAME and its value to custom.snapmila.com. If it is an A record, delete it, then add the CNAME.
  • Optional: open yourstudio.com without www too. Forward yourstudio.com to https://www.yourstudio.com at your provider, as a permanent (301) forward. At GoDaddy this is called Forwarding. Skip this if a website opens at yourstudio.com.

Your email doesn't change.

Common mistakes

  • The whole domain in Name. Write only profile. Most providers add your domain themselves, so profile.yourstudio.com becomes profile.yourstudio.com.yourstudio.com.
  • An old record named profile. A name can hold only one CNAME and nothing else. Delete any old A, CNAME, TXT or redirect on profile first.
  • Cloudflare's orange cloud. On Cloudflare, set Proxy status to DNS only (grey cloud), not Proxied.
  • https:// or a slash in Value. Value is just custom.snapmila.com, with nothing before or after it.
  • The record in the wrong place. If your domain was moved to other nameservers (for example Cloudflare), add the record there, not where you bought it.

What “Check now” tells you

Your settings show three steps: CNAME, Certificate and Active.

What you seeWhat it means
CNAME not found yetWe can't see your record yet. Check its spelling and where you added it. Most records show in minutes; some providers take a few hours (BigRock says 4–6 hours).
CNAME found · Certificate being madeYour part is done. SnapMila is making the lock (HTTPS) for your domain, usually in 1–5 minutes. Press Check now again after that.
ActiveGuests see your page at your domain, and the links to your guest pages use it.

Questions

Will my main website or email change?

No. Only the name you add, such as profile.yourstudio.com, points to SnapMila. yourstudio.com and your email stay as they are. Using www? See Using www.yourstudio.com.

Can I use yourstudio.com itself?

No, a name under it: profile, photos, gallery, www or any word you like.

Do I pay for the certificate (HTTPS)?

No. SnapMila makes it and keeps it renewed.

What if my plan drops below Studio?

Guests still see your page on your domain for 15 days. After that your domain leads them to your studio page's other address, so QR codes you have printed keep working.

I don't have a domain yet.

Buy one from any provider above, then come back to Settings › Your studio.
